Dear
Mr Maini
As
promised by me in one of my previous letters, I am sending a couple of my
comments about the use of Hindi in your Social Science and Hindi exam papers:
i)
The first one relates to the Hindi translation of some instructions appearing
on the front page of your Classes 10 as well as 9 Social Science papers. Please
refer to the school-based SA II Social Science exam papers of class
10. Instruction 3 has been translated as …P`a%yaok P`aSna
3 AMk ka hO,
instructions 4 and 5 have been translated as
…P`a%yaok P`aSna 5 AMk ka hO .Since both 3 and 5 are
plural and followed by a kark icah\na, the correct translations will be …P`a%yaok P`aSna 3
AMkaoM ka hO and …P`a%yaok P`aSna
5 AMkaoM ka hO respectively. Please note
that the similar translations have appeared on your class 9 paper as well which
need to be corrected in the future exams. Interestingly, this kind of error
has not happened in the instructions of your science papers. Please check
it.
Now, please
refer to your school-based SA II Hindi exam paper of class 10,
for instance the one coded SOJ8W3U. Question 1 says gad\yaaMSa. Here the word has been spelled in
accordance with the latest guidelines of Kendriya Hindi Sansthan and Central
Hindi Directorate—both under the HRD Ministry. However, in question 2 the same
word has been spelled as गद्यांश which is not in accordance
with the latest guidelines of the two aforesaid institutions. You can check how
these words are word-processed or written in the NCERT Hindi publications for
that matter. It is only logical and fair to expect that these words are
word-processed in your exam papers in the same way as they appear in the Hindi
textbooks published by the NCERT. There should be uniformity maintained by both
NCERT and CBSE for the sake of standardising Hindi writing in India for which
the above-mentioned institutions were established and now there is a
reconstituted Kendriya Hindi Samity under the chairmanship of the Prime
Minister.
Thus विद्यार्थी should be written as ivad\yaaqaI-
विद्यालय as ivad\yaalaya and similarly pd\yaaMSa Saud\Qa etc rather than in their old
conventional way.
These
things are minor but they will add to the accuracy and uniformity of your exam
papers.
Best
regards
Hareshwar Prasad Singh
